Welcome to the Christernet
2026-06-13
The purpose of this project is two-fold: I want to have more agency over my online presence, and I want to write: share my ideas, reflections etc with the void (aka. the internet). I was inspired by a new friend of mine, Ashley (famous for having me fly to Madrid for Brunch) who is sending private newsletters to her friends and/or network. I didnt inquire further tbh. I just told her to sign me up.
Anywho, I was inspired to do something similar. The only thing that keeps me on Metas products - truly - is Instagram. Its features are actually nice. I enjoy keeping up with the friends Ive “accumulated” over many years of living outside of Norway. I also enjoy sharing my updates with the world (them - my friends), and feeling like I can stay connected with people despite being worlds apart. Its, to me, the original promise of the internet.
Its bitter however. The enshittification of the internet is taking its toll on me, and I am one “do you wanna try AI with that” prompt away from throwing my phone in the face of some random passerby… So for the betterment of the world and the safety of Oslos pedestrians I shall attempt to remove myself from a withering, enshittified internet and attempt to change my online presence. I want agency, and I want my presence to be more purposeful. You know, if we are to be online 2-5 hours a day, not considering the time we’re online at work, we might as well do it with purpose -eh?
So, what shall this thing become? I chose to call this project the “Christernet”. (I felt butterflies in my tummy as I added it to my dictionary). I’ll use it as a vehicle to explore the open internet, and take you along with me.
The first goals are:
- Find a way to share photos in an engaging way
- Move all communications from Meta to forums, Signal, sms and phone calls (yes - I’ve binged Sex and the City, and now I wanna randomly call people - I’m a force of nature and you cant stop me)
- Set up Christernet.com as my personal hub for engaging with the world - and the world in turn engaging with me.
More is to come (unless this is one of my hyperfixations and I simply
